We are a non-profit group of people who are working
together to help the Library serve our communities.
Participation in the group helps the Library by
financially supporting improvements in the collections
and services, and enriching the cultural opportunities
available to the citizens of Glen Ellyn Countryside and
Glendale Heights.
Why?
- Because we believe in libraries and know that
their current needs are important.
- Because it is a way to ensure the future and
honor the past.
- Because it is a concrete way of
giving back to the community.
- Because it gives
prospective volunteers and donors an option for
their service and gifts.
What do the Friends do?
Their fund raising activities provide the Library
with materials and services that it might not otherwise
be able to provide. The major fund raising activity is
the Used Books Sale, held semiannually. The Friends plan
to help the Library purchase a new desktop reading
machine for the visually impaired with proceeds from the
book sale.
Other materials and services that the Friends provide
include:
- Summer Reading Program books and incentive
prizes for children, teens, and adults;
- Essay contests for local school students;
- Sponsoring special educational workshops and
programs for the public;
- Other tasks requested by the librarians;
- On-going used books sale shelves by the coffee
bar.
We hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of
the month, 7:00pm - 8:00pm, with an annual group meeting
in October.
