Please Help -
The Glenside Public Library District is
intended for use by customers of all ages for reading,
studying, quiet contemplation, group study, and library
programs.
We have had many children in the library
after school that are full of energy and are not using
the library for its purpose. We know that it is
difficult for children to sit quietly after a full day
at school. We recognize that after school many children
wish to visit with each other and be physically active.
Unfortunately this behavior is not always appropriate in
the library setting.
We are trying to address the needs of
the children with more after school programming and
positive incentives for good behavior. We need your
help.
We know that after school care can be
problematic. However if your children are going to be in
the library they must use the library for its intended
purpose. Please help us by talking with your children
about proper library behavior and ask them what they do
in the library.
We are also working with the police
department to enforce proper library behavior. If
students are disruptive, they will be asked to leave the
library for the day. If they refuse or return to the
building the same day they have been asked to leave, the
police will be called. The child will then be banned
from the Library for one month and the police will
contact the parent.
We appreciate your assistance in this
matter. We want the library to be an inviting and
comfortable place for all of our users.
Thank you.
