Reference Databases

The following databases are available for use
within the library. Unless otherwise noted, all the
databases are available at home for Glenside Public
Library District cardholders.

Chicago Tribune/Daily
Herald
(newspaper)
This online subscription
allows you to search the content of the Chicago Tribune,
the Chicago Tribune RedEye edition and the Daily Herald
(Arlington Heights). Patrons can search articles by
keyword, subject and date.
Chilton Library
Quick online access to repair, maintenance and
service information for cars, trucks, vans and
SUVs.
FirstSearch
A library database that
allows patrons to search for specific
authors/titles/subjects and find what items are
available at libraries across the United States. Many of
these items may be available for interlibrary loan.

Ebsco Online Magazine Service
Access to articles from general interest magazines
from the past decade. Full text articles available.
Learning Express Library
Learning Express Library includes practice tests for
the ACT, AP courses, ASVAB, civil service careers,
cosmetology, EMS, firefighter, GED, GMAT, law
enforcement, nursing, Praxis/PPST, real estate, SAT,
U.S. citizenship and more. These on-line tests allow you
to sharpen your skills and improve your scores before
you take the real tests.
In addition, there are online, self-paced courses in
algebra, geometry, grammar, math, reading comprehension,
resume writing, TOEFL, vocabulary and spelling, and many
more.
You will be able to access it through your home
computer with your Glenside library card number.

NewsBank
News articles about regional and state events and
issues from wire service and state newspapers. Articles
of importance to Illinois from surrounding states are
also included. When accessing Newsbank from home,
click on “Chicago Tribune".
NoveList
Looking for ideas on what to read next? This
readers advisory service provides annotated lists of
titles in all fiction genres as well as nonfiction on
many topics. When using the public Internet
computers, click on the “Search Links” icon, then select
the EBSCO link, followed by the Novelist link. When
accessing Novelist from home, click on Ebsco link.
Record Information
Services
This database enables
users to search real estate listings in the Chicago
metropolitan area for properties that have been recently
sold or have been foreclosed. It does not list
properties currently for sale.
Sorkins Directory of Business and Government
Provides company profiles and
prospect lists for Chicagoland, St. Louis and Kansas
City areas. Search by company name, industry, geographic
area, sales, number of employees, year founded, function
or title, and other criteria. Full profile includes
address information, detailed description of company,
multiple contact names, and when available, Board of
Directors, and companies providing its banking,
insurance, accounting, computer systems, advertising,
public relations and Internet services.
