Now through February 3rd, 2013 the Field Museum in Chicago is presenting Maharaja: The Splendor of India’s Royal Courts. The exhibit explores a time of great change, from the decline of the Mughal Empire to the rise of smaller kingdoms, to India’s independence movement. See the elaborate jewelry and clothing that demonstrated the court’s opulence, as well as ornate weaponry that symbolized the military might of the maharajas.
November 11th is the day Americans set aside to honor armed services veterans. Celebrate Veteran's Day by reading a novel about one of the wars our veterans served in.

The Twelve is Justin Cronin’s follow-up to 2010’s “one of the best books of the year” The Passage. This second book of the planned trilogy gives readers new perspectives on the viral apocalypse in its early and later stages, as well as catching us up with old friends like Peter, Amy, and Sara. Excellent pacing, vivid prose, and well-drawn characters make for a great story. Though other reviewers were somewhat disappointed by this entry, I was not, and am definitely looking forward to the conclusion.
