Here are the teen fiction titles that the Young Adult Librarian is looking forward to reading in the new year. Dates are subject to change so keep checking the library catalog to see when books are ordered.

Those with a publication date:

A Breath of Frost by Alyxandra Harvey

A Breath of Frost by Alyxandra Harvey

Three cousins discover that they are witches after one accidentally opens a portal to underworld. I enjoyed the author's vampire series and am eager to see how she handles witches.

Teenage spy Maggie returns in another adventure.  This time she must clear her parents's names when they are accused of being traitors.

In book three of the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder is still on the run. Her best hope to defeat Queen Levana lies with computer hacker Cress. Cress, however, has been given orders to track down Cinder. I enjoyed the unique spin on classic fairy tales in the previous books and look forward to how the author handles Rapunzel.

The Last Forever by Deb Caletti

The Last Forever by Deb Caletti

April 1

I enjoyed the romances in Deb Caletti's previous books. After her mother dies, Tessa's happiness slips away. Her father takes her on a road trip to see her grandmother, and things begin to look up after she meets Henry.

Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor

Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor

April 8

In the final book in the trilogy, Karou and Akiva must ally their enemy armies. In doing so, they move toward their long-ago dream and maybe find a way back together. There are new threats as well. I really liked the first book and was disappointed with the second. I want to see how the whole story ends.

The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith

The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith

April 15

The author's last  two novels made my best books of the year lists in 2012 and 2013. Lucy and Owen meet on an elevator during a blackout. They spend one night wandering the city after they are rescued.  Living in two separate countries, they email  and send postcards until they can meet again.

What I Thought was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

What I Thought was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

April 15

When her Biggest Mistake Ever Cassidy takes a job on her island, Gwen tries to stay away from him while worrying that she will spend the rest of her life cleaning other people's houses. Gwen soon finds out that many things she though were true were not what they appeared. I really liked My Life Next Door and want to see if the author can match that romance in this book.

The Taking by Kimberly Derting

The Taking by Kimberly Derting

April 29

The author's popular Body Finder series ended last spring. I was a big fan of that series, and Jay and Violet were one of my favorite young adult couples. Kimberly Derting starts a new series this spring. Kyra wakes up behind a dumpster with no memory of how she got there. It turns out that she has been missing for five years, and her friends and family have changed drastically. Teaming up with the younger brother of her former boyfriend, Kyra attempts to unravel the mystery of what happened to her.

Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

May 6

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed The Fifth Wave as I thought it could not possibly live up to all the hype. Cassie has survived the first four waves of attack from an alien force. Now the final wave of attack is sweeping across the country and creating a new world where humans might no longer exist.

The One by Kiera Cass

The Elite also received a lot of hype, and again I was pleasantly suprised at how much I enjoyed it. I was disappointed in the second book as Maxim and America both annoyed me with their inability to make a choice. Despite my disappointment, I do want to find out who Prince Maxim finally chooses and whether he and America have a happy ending.

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

May 27

The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite young adult series. I liked how the author ended the initial trilogy and was upset that the characters did not get to keep their initial happy ending. I really need to see how everything plays out in this "final" book.

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

Yet another trilogy where I really liked the first book and was dissatisfied with the second. Alina continues to fight for her future even when it looks like she might lose it all.

Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead

The Fiery Heart ended on a heartbreaking note. I must find out what happens to Sydney, Adrian and all the characters.

Opposition by Jennifer L .Armentrout

Not to give to much away from book four, but a big event happened at the end of Origin that could change everything. I need to know what happens to Daemon and Katy in the final book of the Lux series.

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

October 7

I read the author's Hush, Hush novels, and this one is going to be a departure from the realm of angels and the supernatural. Britt's ex-boyfriend wants to join her on her backpacking trip. An unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a cabin, and she becomes the hostage of the two fugitives.

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

October 7

The demigods return in what should be the final book in the Heroes of Olympus series. I need to see how they defeat Gaea (assuming they do defeat her).

These titles do not have a set date yet:

Ashes to Ashes by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

The three girls sought their revenge in the last two books. Events from the end of the second book could change everything.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

This book has been on my anticipated books list 2012 and 2013. It looked like it finally had a release date for May, but now some sources are stating July. I am a huge fan of the author's other books and need to have this one in my hands.

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

The first two books in the series made my best books lists the past two years. I look forward to reading Anith's story as she seems to be much less a physical fighter than Ismae and Sybella.

Raven Cycle #3 by Maggie Stiefvater

Continues the adventures of Blue and the "Raven Boys" as they search for Glenower.

The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson

Rory did something almost unforgivable at the end of The Madness Underneath. It will be interesting to see how a certain character reacts.
