The fall TV season began this week. Two new shows feature classic fairy tale characters in a modern setting. Grimm and Once Upon a Time do not premiere until October. While waiting, you can experience re-imagined fairy tales with these items from our collection:

The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley Sisters Sabrina and Daphne Grimm must live with their grandmother after their parents disappear. In their new home, they live among Everafters, the real-life versions of fairy tale characters.
Sweetly by Jackson Pearce After being kicked out of their home by their stepmother, Ansel and Gretchen make their way to the east coast. When their car breaks down in a small South Carolina town, a candy shop owner gives them shelter and jobs. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister The novel retells the Cinderella story from the perspective of one of the "ugly" stepsisters.
Fables: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham The Big Bad Wolf investigates Rose Red's murder in Fabletown, a place where exiled fairy tale legends live alongside humans.
Fractured Fables Acclaimed authors and illustrators retell classic tales in comic book form.
Rapunzel's Revenge by Shannon Hale In the Old West, Rapunzel teams up with Jack of Beanstalk fame to free her real mother from enslavement.
Beastly In this movie adaptation of Alex Flinn's novel, a witch curses a vain high school student. To break the spell, he must find someone to love him despite his "beastly" appearance.
The Princess Bride Buttercup's true love Wesley is allegedly murdered by the Dread Pirate Roberts. Prince Humperdink is determined to marry her, but she is kidnapped several days before the wedding.  You can also read William Goldman's novelization.
Red Riding Hood Although she loves Peter, Valerie is betrothed to the wealthy Henry. Her plans to run away with Peter are put on hold after a werewolf kills her sister.
Tangled Fleeing from the law, Flynn Rider discovers a mysterious tower and its inhabitant Rapunzel. Rapunzel becomes his unlikely ally after Flinn helps her escape her confinement.

 

Also, watch for several new versions of the Snow White story coming to movie theaters in 2012.
