When I am not singing and bouncing with babies and toddlers during storytime sessions, I am dreaming of my next big adventure from horseback riding through Mayan Ruins in Belize to hiking up the active Mount Etna volcano in Sicily. Seeing different parts of the world is definitely a passion of mine. But since I obviously can’t travel all the time, reading allows me to explore new and interesting worlds. I enjoy a range of quirky and darkly eccentric books from Otessa Moshfegh’s Eileen to Sarah Hepola’s memoir Blackout: Remembering the Things I Drank to Forget. I might be a children’s librarian, but I spend a lot of my time reading books for grown-ups. Coffee, chocolate, running, and studying italian are a few of my favorite things. Forever Bulls fan no matter what. Go Bulls!
I never imagined myself being a librarian, but knew that I wanted a career that was both exciting and intellectually stimulating. And there is definitely never a dull moment working in a public library! I love the challenge of changing people’s perspective of what a public library is and the possibility of what a public library can become. This year I am mostly looking forward to getting used to my new road bike and brainstorming fun programs for all the kids in the community.
