After a rocky start with reading (I couldn’t seem to learn to read in 1st grade and was moved to the remedial class), we eventually became fast friends and as a child I always had a book with me or nearby. In all seriousness, I think the fact that I struggled with reading and had to spend so much time time working on reading made it a sure bet that I would become Readings biggest fan. Once I mastered the subject, I was off and reading almost anything I could get my hands on. This is why it’s so important to me to encourage children to start read and keep reading. It is a skill you can develop and improve upon with practice. I know this firsthand! Reading is like music for me. I cannot live without either. Reading helps me to tell the story of life, while my music is the soundtrack.
