After attending college at I.S.U. in Normal, I taught 2nd grade for seven years before landing in my second career as a professional librarian at the Gail Borden Library in Elgin. After spending over sixteen years as the Glenside Public Library District’s Youth Services Manager, I am currently the Community Ambassador & School Specialist. I enjoy baking and exploring the world, through both travel and reading, and watching old “B” movies (especially when set in Rome or Greece).
I have always enjoyed reading realistic fiction novels, especially coming of age stories. I think that is an extremely interesting time of your life, when you are making so many choices and learning so much about yourself. I guess that I enjoy reading about people who are learning about boundaries . . . their own and societies.
I’ve also enjoyed watching TV mysteries and actually my most favorite book mystery/historical fiction series, is written by author Steven Saylor. It is a series of Ancient Roman detective stories, featuring Gordianus the Finder (a kind of Roman Sherlock Holmes). The series is called Roma Sub Rosa, but unfortunately the library no longer owns any books from this series, so please ask a librarian at the Adult Services Reference desk to interlibrary loan one for you.
Favorite authors: Steven Saylor, Andrew Smith, John Green, Lois Ehlert, Kevin Henkes
