Award presentation transcript (delivered by Constance Barreras):

I have the honor of presenting one last award. The recipient of this award is a person who exemplifies all 6 of the pillars of Character Counts in the Glendale Heights community. He arrived in Glendale Heights on November 29, 1994 to work at the Glenside Public Library District in Youth Services. He led storytime at the library, where many members of the community first met him as Mr. S. He was the Manager of Youth Services for many years and then eight years ago he took his show on the road as the Community Outreach Specialist. He took the outreach part of his job to heart and went above and beyond in his service to Glendale Heights. His efforts to bring the community together have been extraordinary.

He has been an important resource for the Glendale Heights Chamber of Commerce, has served on the Youth Commission, is in charge of the library volunteer efforts in the community, including spearheading multiple food drives over the years and packing treats for Blessings in a Backpack. He helped found the Kiwanis Club of Glendale Heights and has served as Secretary, Vice President and is the current President of the group. Some of the volunteer activities he has participated in through Kiwanis include Operation Support our Troops, Humanitarian Service Project, Phil’s Friends, Feed our Starving Children, and baking dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Many of you may also know him as Luigi from Mario Bros., the costume he wears to participate in Trick-or-Treating at Safety Town.

On top of all these volunteer efforts he also bakes delicious treats for the participants in the meetings he attends. Through the power of baking and sophisticated hats he has helped forge the relationships that tie many of our community service efforts together. For these and all the various other activities he has participated in in the Glendale Heights community, I am proud to present the Glendale Heights Character Counts Spirit Award to Vince Sovanski.

Congratulations, Mr. Vince!
