SciTech Hands-On Museum
SciTech Hands-on Museum has over 150 interactive STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) exhibits which inspire education and imagination. SciTech sparks young minds of all ages to discover the world around them — from the baby of the family to Grandma. SciTech also offers group field trips, overnights, scout programs, birthday parties and day camps.
Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum
The Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum is a small natural history museum located on the second floor of the Michael and Kay Birck Hall of Science at Benedictine University. The museum represents the work of Fr. Hilary Jurica, O.S.B. and his brother, Fr. Edmund Jurica, O.S.B. who collected specimens for their students to use during their almost 100 combined years of teaching at Benedictine University.
College of DuPage Physics Department
The study of physics is concerned with the interactions of everything from the smallest particles known to occur in nature to the largest things found in nature: quarks, photons, atoms, galaxies, clusters and super clusters, and the universe itself. The Physics program at College of DuPage has three levels of study and will be here to demonstrate the magic of physics.
DuPage County Farm Bureau
The DuPage County Farm Bureau’s mission is to “Promote agriculture through educational and informational programming to enhance the quality of life for our members, while preserving our agricultural heritage.” The DuPage County Farm Bureau will be here to show us the basics of farming, agriculture, and the food we eat.
Workshop 88 is a hackerspace (also known as a makerspace) located in Chicago’s western suburbs. Focused on science, technology, mechanics, culture and the digital arts we offer a space where people with diverse backgrounds can socialize, collaborate and learn. Through shared resources, knowledge and ideas we strive to create a space that promotes community and learning.
Suburban Music is a local full-service music center that has been serving the community since 1996. You can find solo classes, group classes, and awesome rock band classes at their shop. These musicians and teachers will be joining us for a musical instrument petting zoo to help us explore the power of music as performance art.
Glenside Fire Department
Glenside’s own firefighters will be attending the GPLD’s STEAM Fest this year to teach us the science behind fighting fires, and how they are able to ensure the safety of our community through their knowledge of STEAM principles.
High Touch High Tech
High Touch High Tech: Science Made Fun facilitates science fun for kids! These programs provide an opportunity to expose kids, at an early age, to the amazing world of science and nature.
The Center for the Gifted
The Center for Gifted offers an innovative and unique approach to education, providing enriching opportunities for motivated students to explore diverse subjects in a challenging, creative environment free from the pressures of tests and grades. They will be giving us a taste of what STEAM education looks like at their center.
Sylvan Learning Center in Schaumburg
Sylvan Learning Center is known for its awesome tutoring services, but they also offer highly creative and interactive STEM programs. They will be visiting the library to show us what STEM education looks like at Sylvan, and what it can look like for you, too!
Frank Lloyd Wright Trust
The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is a not-for-profit organization that works to acquire and preserve Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes. They ensure that historic architecture and design is maintained and accessible for the public. They will be at the STEAM Fest to teach us all a little bit about architecture and Chicago’s own, Frank Lloyd Wright.
